Download
- Description:
-
This report has been prepared by the Bermuda Employers’ Council to provide a fact-based analysis of Bermuda’s national workforce. Entitled The Shift, this report examines the challenges facing the country in terms of its labour market employment and trends in Bermuda
The analysis undertaken is, for the most part, based on data from various Government departments and agencies. The purpose of this analysis is to provide an overview of the historical employment trends and projected future employment trends, along with their implications to Bermuda and its citizens.
The lead researcher for this report, Larry Burchall, has undertaken a comprehensive and rather exhaustive review of all pertinent data related to the country’s national workforce, including birthrates and population projections, the changes in employment patterns and the nature of jobs, racial balance and Bermudian job share trends, the impact of economic growth on job creation and the role and impact of the Government as a major employer on the Island.
Based on this analysis, a series of key conclusions have been drawn that must be urgently considered in any legislation or social policy that Government proposes.
The report that follows provides an executive summary of the key findings and conclusions, along with a summary analysis that reviews the pertinent data related to employment trends in Bermuda. Table references in the report refer to supporting data in the appendices used to create the graphs in the report. As well, the appropriate references for the data used in the report may be found after the table appendices.
